Bold, Bright and Beautiful is the Miss Trinidad & Tobago New York motto. We are dedicated to molding this image. With the organization's talent, tenacity, and innovative style, we are able to help young women express every facet of their personality as individuals who compete with the hope of advancing their education, career, personal and humanitarian goals and as diverse young women seeking to improve their lives and the lives of others while representing the larger Caribbean community here in New York.
In 1998, on the invitation of fashion stylist Rick Davy, I started with Miss T&T New York. Every year, gets better and every year Renee and I look forward to the next. I am committed to this goal of helping young women self-actualize and reinvent themselves. The Miss T&T New York program offers me the opportunity to work with future leaders of the international Trinidad & Tobago community. It also keeps me connected to my culture and heritage.
Throughout my life experiences, in fashion and education, I am able to share my knowledge while giving support, nurturing and shaping the minds of the many young women who come to us every summer. The support I give extends way beyond the contestants. After many years of working on this pageant, Renee and I are not only business partners but best friends or even better than that; we are family. She says my smile always keeps her calm and keeps the participants going when the going gets rough. And it does get rough!
Our rehearsals are not easy, they are life transforming, sweat and tears, brimstone and fire sessions, we push each participant as far as she can go and beyond! In less than three months we create miracles. My training as a professional dancer and years as a walking coach and administrator at New York University, offers me a wealth of knowledge on which to draw as rehearsal director.
Together we aspire, together we achieve, these words are embedded on the coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago and like those words the Miss T&T New York program showcases the creative and artistic talents of our young women. To give is to receive. That is why I give so much to this program. What I have received is priceless. When I see a young woman move from a shy unassuming stance to a bold, bright, and beautiful posture, I feel proud to know that I have contributed to the development of our beautiful twin island republic….one woman at a time!
Jerry has danced with the Astor Johnson Repertory Dance Company (Trinidad). As a professional model, he trained with Barbizon Modeling School, New York. He has worked as a talent coordinator for the Essence Awards, VH1 Fashion Awards, MTV Fashion Awards, GQ Men Awards, Grammy Awards, Toni Awards, Drama Desk Awards, and the Everybody Magazine Award.
He has produced several major fashion shows including Collections in Urban African Wear and the GMAD Fashion Show Benefit. He also freelances as a fashion stylist and has styled several major magazine editorials such as Essence, Honey, NV, and Venus Magazine. Jerry received his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Pace University and an MBA in Finance from New York University.
